Course Description:
We will be using materials compiled from teaching in the school system as well as SAT prep work. This content covers all the objectives required by the state for Algebra 1, while also preparing students for future math classes and SAT testing. This class incorporates various teaching techniques, including Saxon and Teaching Textbooks, which focus on the Spiral Review method. We will meet for 14 weeks each semester, with class time dedicated to reviewing homework questions and covering 3-4 lessons per week. Additionally, I will provide pre-recorded video lessons via Google Classroom each week so that if a student forgets a concept or is absent, they can review it. Each week, students will take an at-home quiz (without notes or books) to bring back on Monday for grading. All homework will be graded by the students. I will provide them with answer keys each week for self-checking, and any missed problems should be corrected by the following meeting. At the end of each semester, students will take a cumulative test. I will also have students maintain a Math binder, which I have found to be an invaluable tool. It helps them keep their materials organized and fosters important life skills. I look forward to helping your student grow in their math knowledge!
Supplies:
I provide all the necessary materials except for a binder, a writing utensil, and a calculator. I recommend a Texas Instruments TI-30, or you may opt for a graphing calculator that your student can use for higher-level math. If you choose a graphing calculator, I suggest a Texas Instruments model.
Additionally, please ensure your student has access to Google Classroom to check their homework and view lesson based videos.
