Course Description:

In Grammar & Spelling C we will be tackling grammar through the UPDATED EDITION of IEW Fix It, Frog Prince (4th Edition), along with spelling and vocabulary, using English from the Roots Up Volumes 1&2. These valuable resources will give your student(s) a great foundation and/or help them review and brush up on their grammar and spelling skills. This class is part of a three year cycle of Grammar & Spelling for Jr. High.

Each week students will learn five Latin and/or Greek root words, along 10-15 spelling and vocabulary words based on the root words. We will also be learning spelling expectancies, to help us overcome common spelling errors.  There will be weekly spelling/vocabulary quizzes for an optional grade. Please let me know at the start of the semester if you would like your student to receive a letter grade.

We will also cover one week of IEW’s Fix-It: Frog Prince (4th Edition) each week, which will allow students to review grammar principles while learning and practicing new concepts. Fix-It is not a traditional grammar program. Instead, students learn to apply grammar rules while reading and editing literature (in this case, The Frog Prince.) This method not only teaches grammar, but helps students to become better writers and eventually prepare for high school and standardized tests like the SAT/ACT. Students will need to complete days 2 -4 of the Fix-It activities at home each week. I will send home parent “instructions” to those who would like them, along with the weekly spelling/vocabulary list or you can order the Teacher’s Manual.

Students will have 20-30 minutes of homework each day in order to complete their Fix-It sentences and review their roots/spelling/vocabulary words.

Your student will need IEW’s Fix-It: Frog Prince (4th Edition), student text. This can be ordered directly from IEW’s website or from ChristianBook.com. I will provide the spelling and vocabulary materials for this class. An unabridged dictionary would be helpful.

This is a year-long class.

If you have a student with special needs, please contact the teacher directly to discuss.
