Course Description: Modern World – History Based Writing Lessons is a comprehensive class for learning and then practicing and fine tuning a wide variety of writing skills.  Starting with pre-writing and key word outlining this course teaches students to think about a source text and make decisions about what they see as significant information.  This process develops thinking, decision making and organization of thoughts. The course goes onto teach formats for a large variety of paragraphs and full essays.  The book alternates between report writing and creative writing assignments which helps to keep it interesting for the student. A variety of grammar and literary devices are peppered throughout the course as well as both reinforcing basic skills and introducing new techniques.  As the title implies, most of the source texts for this course are related to a historical event from modern world history. It is arranged in a chronological fashion and couples with most history curriculum covering that time period. It also functions as a stand-alone course.  The student book can be purchased from Institute for Excellence in Writing or Christian Book Distributors.
